Jolly Roger

Here's a short post to exhibit a Minimate Jolly Roger request. You see, thar be all kinds of Minimateers out in the depths. Even the scurviest lot deserve a flag to sail under.

Yarrr.
Count yourself lucky, I was tempted to write this whole post in 'pirate speak' but even I find that annonying to read after a while. But to listen to? Never! Remember International Talk Like A Pirate Day is coming up on September 19. Unfortunately that falls on a Saturday this year so it will be harder to annoy your co-workers. Not impossible of course, you'll just have to call them at home or leave interesting voicemails for when they arrive Monday morning.

Enough of that, on to the Minimates. I was asked by a Minimate Multiverse board member to work up a Skull and Crossbones style image using Minimate pieces for a personal project. Up there is the outline I made to see if I could get a decent layout. The arms are a little too thick in proportion to their length when you compare it to the originals. But when I tried to stretch the arms it looked very, very wrong.

After adding the face (shamelessly stolen from Ghost Rider) and some discrete shading I got that image out. Something about it didn't seem quite right. It just didn't pop. I messed with the propoprtions, the layout, and nothing seemed to help.

The only thing I could think to do was to add more detail. So I added all the little "cracks" to give it some texture. It still doesn't look like bone, but it gives the image a little more substance.

Avast!
